TRAFFIC VIOLATIONS BUREAU
Traffic Violations Bureau The Traffic Violations Bureau, located on the first floor of the Municipal Court Building, processes the records for all traffic minor misdemeanor citations, in which a court appearance is not required, issued by the City of Columbus, Ohio State Highway Patrol, Franklin County Sheriff, The Ohio State University Police, Port Columbus Airport Police, and eight township police departments in Franklin County. Hard copies of all traffic citations that are paid on or before the court date are secured and stored in this division. The records are then destroyed pursuant to the established Records Retention Schedule.
Such payable moving violations are accepted by cashiers on the first floor in the
Traffic Violations Bureau, Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Payment may be
made by Discover, MasterCard, VISA, personal check, money order, or cash by the following methods:
(1) Mail, by placing the payment and citation in the envelope provided by the officer;
(2) Charge by fax at 614-645-0240, by following the directions attached to the violator's payment envelope;
(3) In person, at the Traffic Violations Bureau on the first floor.
The Traffic Violations Bureau accepts Proof of Financial Responsibility at the time the citation is paid, if not shown to the officer at the time the citation was received. The Proof of Financial Responsibility is entered and updated in the computer system for reporting to the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles.
The Traffic Violations Bureau opens, logs, and prepares all incoming mail for payment. For questions pertaining to payments that have been made by mail, please call 614- 645-8389.
