DUTY ROOM
The Duty Room is located in Room 10C on the 10th floor. Each week, a different
judge is assigned to the duty session to handle a variety of matters that come
before the court. The responsibilities of the Duty Judge include decisions concerning
applications for warrants to search, applications by the Clerk to strike improper or
incomplete pleadings, motions to dismiss filed by the prosecutor pursuant to Criminal
Rule 48, cognovit notes, motions to excuse jurors, probable cause hearings, and performing
civil wedding ceremonies.
Motions for default judgment filed in unassigned cases are processed through the
Duty Room. The Duty Judge determines whether an evidentiary hearing on the issue
of damages is necessary. If such a hearing is necessary, the hearing is scheduled
before a magistrate in Courtroom 11A. The hearing dates for judgment debtor examinations
are also scheduled by the Duty Room bailiff.
Most matters are handled on a first come, first-served basis.
