BMV SUSPENSION/LIMITED DRIVING PRIVILEGES
This page will attempt to answer some of the more common BMV Suspension'Limited Driving Privileges questions. However, it is not the intention of the Clerk of Court's Office or the Franklin County Municipal Court to offer legal advice through these pages or through our answering of questions. While knowledgeable about the operational procedures of the Clerk's Office and the Court, Deputy Clerks and Bailiffs are not attorneys and cannot recommend specific legal options, and their answering questions should not be construed as such.
I have a suspension on my license and I need limited driving privileges?
First contact the BMV @ 752-7500 or go to the BMV Reinstatement Office at 1583 Alum Creek Dr., Columbus to find out the type of suspension on your license and any reinstatement requirements and fees due at the BMV.

Does it costs to file a Petition for Limited Driving Privileges?
Yes, the filing fee is $117.00. The fee can be paid by cash or debit/credit card only, no personal checks accepted.

When will my court date be for a non-compliance suspension on my license after I file my petition?
For a non-compliance suspension, court date will be on a Monday at 1:30pm in courtroom 10A before a Magistrate. You will be able to pick the Monday. If you file your petition on Thursday by 4:00pm, you can go to court at 1:30pm the following Monday.

When will my court date be for a 12-point suspension on my license after I file my petition?
For a 12-point suspension, court date will be on a Friday at 1:30pm in courtroom 10A before a Magistrate, in 4 weeks from the date of filing your petition. If you file your petition before your suspension begins, you are permitted to drive pending your court date. If you file your petition after your suspension begins, you are not permitted to drive pending your court date.

I have a judgment suspension on my license can I get limited driving privileges?
No, driving privileges are not granted on a judgment suspension. You will need to contact the BMV for information about the judgment or contact the Court where the judgment was granted. If the judgment was granted at the Franklin County Municipal Court, call information at (614)645-7220. Information can proved you with the Plaintiff or the Attorney for the Plaintiff's name and/or phone number.

Can I get driving privileges for my CDL License if I have a non-compliance suspension?
No, CDL driving privileges are not granted on a non-compliance suspension.

Does the court have forms to file for limited driving privileges?
Yes, the court has a Petition form at the Information Desk, Monday thru Friday, 8am to 5pm and on the website at www.fcmcclerk.com under Downloadable Forms/Civil.

I am unable to pay my reinstatement fees to the BMV and I have a non-compliance suspension on my license can I still file for limited driving privileges?
Yes, along with your Petition for limited driving privileges you can also petition the court for installment payment plan for the reinstatement fees due.

I live outside of Franklin County can I file a Petition for Limited Driving Privileges in this Court?
No, Petitions may be filed in this court only by residents of Franklin County and out of state residents.

Can I file a Petition for limited driving privileges if I have received several non-compliance suspensions on my license?
You must be prepared to show proof at the time of filing that your driving privileges have not been suspended previously two or more times for a non-compliance suspension within five years of the violation. The BMV can provide you with the information needed. Contact the BMV @ 752-7500 or go to the BMV Reinstatement Office at 1583 Alum Creek Dr., Columbus.

I have lost driving privileges for not having insurance. What do I do?
We have a petition to request limited driving privileges and a packet to complete. It costs $116.00 to file the petition. Hearings are held Mondays at 1:30 pm in Courtroom 10A. You need to pay for the petition before 9:00 am on Monday morning to be added to that same Monday's court docket.
