This page will attempt to answer some of the more common General Civil questions. However, it is not the intention of the Clerk of Court's Office or the Franklin County Municipal Court to offer legal advice through these pages or through our answering of questions. While knowledgeable about the operational procedures of the Clerk's Office and the Court, Deputy Clerks and Bailiffs are not attorneys and cannot recommend specific legal options, and their answering questions should not be construed as such.

How much do you charge for copies?
The first 20 copies are free. There is a $.05 for each copy above 20. Certified copies are $1.00.
Why is there an alert on my case?
We put alerts on cases for the following reasons: Bankruptcy stays, Garnishment hearings and releases, civil capias warrants and cases where the Accounting/Finance Division needs to check the docket.
How much do I owe on my case?
We can give an approximate amount, but the Plaintiff or the attorney for the Plaintiff should be contacted for that information. The Clerk's Office does not keep track of the balance owed on civil cases.
Where can I get contact information for the other party in my lawsuit?
Go to our website and look up the case number or call information at 614-645-7220 if you have your case number call our file room at 645-8161.
What can I do to prove that I am not the party named in the lawsuit?
You will need to contact an attorney for legal advice.
How can I find out what I am being sued for?
If you have your case number, you can call our file room at 614-645-7220 to have them pull the file.
My case says that it is closed. Does that mean it is dismissed?
No, the open and closed status is used only for Supreme Court Reporting purposes.
Who do I talk to about a bad check?
Charges may be filed through the Prosecutor's Office located on the 7th floor of 375 South High Street.
