The Traffic Violations Bureau, located on the first floor of the Municipal Court Building, manages all tickets and complaints issued by twenty-one (21) Municipal Law Enforcement agencies and eight (8) Townships within Franklin County which includes: Columbus Division of Police, Ohio State Highway Patrol, Franklin County Sheriff, Ohio State University Police, Port Columbus Police. Payable traffic minor misdemeanor tickets are secured and stored in the department for 30 days after the court date. All traffic citations that are paid on or before the court date may be destroyed pursuant to the established Records Retention Schedule.

Within the Traffic Violations Bureau, is the Communications Department. The function of the Communications Department is to sort, open, log and prepare all incoming mail for payment. Proof of Financial Responsibility is also accepted at the time of payment, if it was not shown to the officer at the time the citation was received. The Proof of Financial Responsibility is entered and updated in the computer system for reporting to the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles.

Public Record Requests and Mayor’s Court Transfer cases are also handled within the Traffic Violations Bureau.
